Plasma Foal IgG Midland Quick Test Kit®

Plasma Foal IgG Midland Quick Test Kit®

Importance of Colostrum and Antibodies (IgG) in the Newborn Foal

Disease Protection
Passive IgG protects the foal from disease in it’s first 4-8 weeks of life until it’s own immune system becomes fully functional. Passive immunity is obtained from the mare's 1st and 2nd colostrum.

Provision of Growth Factors and Hormones
Regulates development of the digestive system in the newborn foal.

Nutritional
A rich source of minerals and vitamins, protein, fat, casein, and increases the immunoglobulin content for passive immunity.

Transfer of Passive Immunity
The only source of maternal immunoglobulins (Ig) and antibodies to protect the newborn foal from disease is obtained in its first 18-24 hours of life.

A Simple and Fast Method for Identifying IgG Levels in the Newborn Foal
Midland BioProducts Corporation® is introducing the Plasma Foal IgG Midland Quick Test Kit®.

Once a sample of plasma serum is obtained from the foal, 0.2cc of the sample is pipetted into and mixed with the provided dilution liquid. Next, pipette the diluted plasma serum sample in the Sample (S) well of the test cassette. In approximately 10-20 minutes, the appearance of a horizontal line in the Control (C) position on the strip tells you that the test is working. A line appearing in the Test (T) position will indicate if the IgG in the whole blood sample is a certain amount of IgG in mg/mL. See the diagram below.

U.S. Patent 6,245,577 and 6,660,534

A qualitative measure of immunity levels
in the newborn foal.

The Plasma Foal IgG Midland Quick Test Kit® cassette is:
  • Self contained lateral flow pads
  • Easy to use and read in the lab or field
  • In a protective foil pouch that is stable at room temperature
  • A control line at “C” if the test is working
  • 3 years expiration from date of manufacture
The kit is provided with:
  • A pre-measured dilution buffer
  • Disposable pipette tips (200 µL Pipetter sold separately)
  • Does not need refrigeration
  • Step by step instructions
  • Sold in 3, 6, 12, and 24 test pack size
Easy to read results:
  • The Plasma Foal IgG kit comes in two formats, a 4 mg/mL (400 mg/dL) test kit and an 8 mg/mL (800 mg/dL) test kit.
  • In either kit, one line, the control line, indicates greater than, and two lines, the control line and the test line, indicate less than.
