Protein Purification Chemist
Successful candidate will have an BS/MS degree and 2+ years' experience in an industry setting having worked
with proteins and performed protein purification techniques. Individual must be meticulous, detail-oriented,
responsible and accountable. This is a "hands on" position where the candidate will be responsible for project completion.
Responsibilities
- Develop methods and conduct protocols for purifying proteins from sera
- Perform assigned laboratory tasks safely, rapidly, and efficiently
- Develop and conduct protein purification for the production of hyperimmune sera
- Optimize procedures and protocols to improve throughput
- Write transferable, GLP-quality protocols
- Record results in laboratory notebooks and prepare research reports accurately, meticulously, and efficiently
Skills
- Excellent "hands" for laboratory protocols involving protein purification
- Expertise with a variety of protein purification techniques: FPLC, size exclusion, ion exchange chromatography, microfiltration, and other related techniques as applied to materials from human and/or animal sera, at scales from micrograms to grams.
- Deep knowledge of solid and liquid phase protein chemistry and of how proteins behave under a variety of laboratory conditions
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot FPLC/LC and electrophoretic systems and protocols
- Experience with overcoming bottlenecks in scaling protein purification methods
- GLP and GMP experience with protein products is a plus
- Good project planning and time management which lead to timely task completion
- Ability to juggling several simultaneous projects
- Good listening skills with concise and consistent written and oral communication
Background
- Must have a BS/MS in chemistry/biochemistry or related science
- Must have experience in an industrial setting post MS degree
- At least 2 distinct, observable examples where achieved meaningful excellence
- At least 2 years work focused on protein purification techniques
